Pregnancy is a special time in your life. You are at your most feminine and beautiful natural self (even if you may not feel like it!) A maternity shoot is the perfect opportunity to embrace this moment in your life and document your journey into motherhood.
Here are some tips to help prepare you for a maternity session!
What to wear?
Wear that gown! - There will probably only be a handful of times in your life you will get to dress up in beautiful gown and feel like the goddess you are - this is one of those times!
I have a collection of beautiful gowns available for your use, and I'm always adding more!
or if something more casual is your style, I can guide you to where to find the outfit for your shoot!
Get spoiled!
I always recommend getting your hair and makeup done for your shoot, either done by yourself or I can help you book a professional stylist for your session so you can sit back and be pampered!
Speaking of being pampered - Don't forget about your hands! We will do some close up shots of belly, and you will want your fingers to look their best! Some nail polish or a manicure is a great idea!
What shoes should I wear?
Maternity gowns are typically very long and you won't even see your feet, Wear something comfortable, like flats or flip flops or if we're at the beach no shoes at all!
What should my partner and/or kids wear?
You are the star of this shoot, and we will base outfits off of moms outfit. We will first pick out your look as part of your consultation and then I will help guide you in what everyone else in the shoot should be wearing.
What should I wear under my gown?
Seamless panties and some shape-wear are very useful to smooth out lines from your underwear. If the dress you are wearing is off shoulders, don't forget to bring a good fitting strapless bra.
What about jewelry and accessories?
It's always fun to add something extra to our outfits with some jewelry or accessories, just keep in mind to keep it simple so it doesn't become a distraction in the images
Most importantly, what should I do with these images?
One of the first questions I'll ask during your consultation will be "How will you be showing off your new images?" Why? Because it's always good to begin with the end in mind when starting a project! Knowing the final forms your session images will end up as; wall art, or album for example, helps me design your session to suit your needs perfectly.
Is your main goal just one really great image that you would like displayed as big canvas in your home? With that in mind, I will aim to get that one AMAZING shot (don't worry I will always provide a variety of images and poses to choose from!)
Maybe an album is more your style? Knowing this, I will go into your shoot with more of a "story telling" mind set and capture the shoot in all the details.
It is important to have a goal in mind before your session, so think about this and how you want to show off your images!
What location should we go to?
That depends on the vision you have for your shoot and what end result you are looking for.
Is more of a beachy look your style? maybe something more urban and bold? a fine art look in studio, or a combination of those? If you are not sure, no worries! This is something we will discuss in your design consultation and we can come up with a vision together!
Maybe you know exactly where you want this image displayed? That's great! We can keep that in mind and even pick a location and outfits that will form a color pallet to complement the decor in that room!
When should I book a session?
I recommend Maternity sessions to take place somewhere in your 30th-35th week of pregnancy. But it is really when you are most comfortable doing your session! If you are showing early we can do it sooner! I however don't recommend waiting too long, as the further along you get the more uncomfortable you will be (also baby may decide to come early and you may miss your maternity photos entirely) Most clients typically contact me to get their session on the books sometime in their second trimester.
